Also known as “dabs”, concentrates are the most potent form of cannabis consumption available. They take different forms including rosin, shatter, badder, and more. Concentrates are typically consumed by vaporizing them at high temperatures and inhaling using a special device, though some edible versions are available. Concentrates

Concentrates are the most potent form of cannabis available today. Also known as “dabs,” they come in a variety of THC purity levels and textures. All of them offer an intense experience that’s particularly appealing to the seasoned consumer with a high tolerance. Concentrates are typically consumed through vaporization, either with a freestanding device or from disposable cartridges attached to a vaporizer. A much higher temperature is required to vaporize the concentrates than is needed for flower. Much like with cannabis flower, the onset takes as little as five to 10 minutes. You’ll enjoy about two to four hours of effects before feeling them fade, depending on your tolerance level.

What Are the Main Types of Cannabis Concentrates?

There are nearly a dozen different categories of cannabis concentrates, most of them differentiated by their texture. The precise amount of THC and the presence of terpenes also varies. For example, sugar and wax products both tend to include natural terpenes from cannabis for flavor and feature a distinctive crumbly texture like their namesakes. As you might expect, sauce tends to be runny, and shatter is clear and easy to break, like glass. It’s best to check each individual product because some concentrates can range from 75% THC to as high as 98% by weight.

Other popular forms of concentrates include:

  • RSO: An oil popularly used for medicinal purposes
  • Budder and badder: Two smooth and slightly runny mixtures that tend to include plenty of terpenes
  • Diamonds: One of the purest forms of cannabis concentrate that is usually free from terpenes or flavorings
  • Hash: A classic concentrate made from the kief that gives cannabis buds their distinctive frosted appearance
  • Rosin: A concentrate made without solvents for a pure cannabis experience
  • Live resin: A term describing flavorful concentrates made from fresh (rather than dried) cannabis buds

Other Recommended Accessories for Enjoying Concentrates

An electrically heated vaporizing device, often called an E-nail, is a good way to eliminate the need for a high-heat torch. Vaporizing accessories that use cartridges are also an easy way to try concentrates without buying a lot of extra equipment. If you decide to use an E-nail or torch-heated device, make sure you have metal or glass applicators to transfer the concentrate to the heated surface.
